Madison Tavern: Can't Stop the (Tacos)
[this is an archived post from my old blog. I will be slowly migrating, and editing, these posts]
EDIT 5/29/19: The tacos listed below are no longer available at Madison Tavern. They have been replaced by different tacos. Cannot confirm how good those tacos are.

Alright, spoiler - this is not a taco place. But, LET ME TELL YOU what went down for us to get our hands on some tacos.
As some of you may know, I am a tax accountant and its March so I am in the heart of busy season. Which means, I'm working hella hours and need to get them all in. My schedule was especially exasperated last week as I planned to attend C2E2 in Chicago that weekend. But, I still had to get in my hours. Thus, I asked Fellow taco connoisseur and ride or die babe, Sara Seibt, if she would, ever so kindly be willing to go to the place right across the street from work so I could just take a half hour break or so and then go back to work.
She agreed. What a gem.
And thus we agreed to go to Habanero and showed up at it's doors at 5 o'clock. And APPARENTLY it closes at 4pm...
Now if you are a taco aficionado like myself, you know that the Loop is a taco dead zone. So we were desperately looking for a place that just served tacos. And just across the street from Habanero there is a bar that just opened recently that is popular with the happy hour commuter crowd - Madison Tavern.
So, in we went for their tacos to consume as fast as we possibly could so I could get back to work. And surprisingly.... they were really good!
Sara got the fish and I got the spicy pork and both were very good! I don't know if it's because Madison Tavern is trying to be just trendy enough - because it's trying to appeal to slightly tipsy business people after a long day at work - so it didn't go too over the top with the taco ingredients.
Sara's fish tacos were crisp, fresh, and, in her words, "fucking fantastic." In Sara’s father's words, "Epic."
My spicy pork tacos were only enjoyed by me as Sara can't handle spice and I was not giving them to the people at work who were upset that their company-provided dinner that day was vegan and gluten-free. Regardless, these were superb, well seasoned, and not at all kidding when they said spicy.
I'm very happy we went here because it's right across the street from my office and I will 100% go back.
