So, disclaimer: fellow taco connoisseur and ride or die babe, Sara Seibt, did not join me on this one.
I KNOW.
But, she was throwing up and we figured that would hamper her taco judging abilities. Never fear! I recruited my boyfriend, Scott - who is helpful to bounce ideas off of.
This is my old stomping grounds in college and I had actually been to the place next door all the time, El Famous Burrito. El Famous, by the way, has multiple locations and their Wheeling location has the dopest chicken tacos. The Clark location is aight - but go to Wheeling if you can.
Rocky's Tacos is more known for their Tortas, apparently - they take up most of the menu. Why they don't call it Rocky's Tortas is a good question and one you should definitely ask if you weren't feeling non-confrontational like me.
The recommended taco was the Taco Pioneros, which isn't actually like a taco at all. It's basically a platter with steak, bacon, ham, peppers, onions, cactus, and cheese which you then shell into tortillas yourself.
It was almost like a breakfast skillet sans eggs.
It was v. good, but definitely a bit rich after awhile. I didn't finish all of mine and ended up just picking at the vegetables with my fork. I also couldn't get over how good it would be if it had been sprinkled on top of eggs.
Scott rated it a 3.5. I happen to agree with the statement.
Would we recommend? I'm keeping it solidly on the "meh" side. We'd both be willing to give it a try again next time we're in the area at the very least.
