Right in the heart of Little Village is a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant/grocery store: called La Chaparrita. The room is filled with colorful, cheerful decor and just screams charming. I have immediately fallen in love.
We were the only people inside when we arrived and a server came up right away offering us a sample of their fermented pineapple. Um, yes. It was brought to us in little dixie cups and I was immediately sure I was going to like this place.
Boy oh boy, these tacos were FRESH TO DEATH. I'm not sure how it was prepared (I didn't watch, though I probably could have - there are windows into the kitchen), but I could tell that these were quality ingredients.
I got the steak and the crispy tripas (which was recommended) and the steak was exactly what I expected it to be - in the best way. But the tripas was something I have never experienced before. Tripas is basically various animal intestines that have been cleaned, boiled, and grilled. In this case, they were also deep fried, and DAMN DANIEL! It was a stronger flavor than I'm used to, but very good all the same.
I 100% need to come back here.
